Dorset Facts – Did you know…

    1. Jurassic Park
Dorset’s Jurassic coast was the first location in the world to feature on the UNESCO World Heritage list thanks to the huge number of fossils that have shaped global palaeontology.
    2. UFO
The first recorded UFO sighting in the UK occurred in Fleet, Dorset in 1733. The term ‘UFO’ didn’t come into common use until 200 years later.
    3. Art Attack
Legend has it that the ancient hillfort of Bradbury Rings was the site of a fierce battle in which King Arthur killed 160 Saxon warriors.
    4. Old & Bendy
The county has some lovely claims, it’s home to the UK’s oldest post box erected in1853 and Britain’s bendiest road, the B3081 that is known locally as ‘Zig Zag Hill’. It was also the birthplace of the worldwide Boy Scout movement.
    5. Slow Motion
Dorset doesn’t have a motorway. On the whole driving is slower in Dorset but when the views are so good, what’s the hurry?
    6. Red Hot Chilli Peppers
The Dorset Naga is one of the hottest chillies in the world scoring on the 923,000 Scoville scale. That’s 400 times fiercer than Tabasco Sauce.
    7. She sells sea shells…
Mary Anning was a palaeontologist and fossil whose work sadly went unrecognised by the Geological Society because she was a woman. She made a living selling shells and fossils yet today she is celebrated for her ground-breaking contributions to world science.
    8. Fit For A Palace
St Pauls Cathedral and Buckingham Palace are both made with Dorset stone. With Armishaws Dorset removals you won’t need to go to those lengths to impress the neighbours.

An area of world-renowned scientific interest and incredible natural beauty, Dorset really is a little bit special. The beautiful coastline attracts thousands of visitors, with miles of pristine coast to explore.

Smugglers tales and legends run through the county which also produced some of Britain’s most feared pirates. Most significantly, fossils found on the World Heritage recognised Jurassic Coast have shaped scientific thinking.

It isn’t cheap! Sandbanks is one of the most expensive property hotspots in the world. Even beach huts can set you back, some of the traditional wooden huts have exchanged hands for six figure sums.
