While it’s considered a new town (one of the generation of towns that grew after the Second World War), Crawley actually date back to the 470’s. There have been people lining in the area since the Stone Age. During the Roman period this part of the Weald was a centre of iron working.
The modern era was born from the expansion of the former RAF airport and people arriving from London that was still being rebuilt following the war.
Today Crawley is a bustling, modern town with excellent infrastructure, great shops and plenty of entertainment and activities right on the doorstep.
Soft play centres, bowling, cinemas, theatre, comedy clubs, there is plenty to keep the whole family smiling. Sports fans will find a number of teams to follow, plus a good selection of sports clubs and facilities. There are parks and walks with dedicated cycle paths and outdoor gyms if you prefer to keep fit outdoors. When you’re not keeping fit, you’ll find a huge array of eateries, regardless on your thoughts on calorie counting.
Crawley is dominated by its association with Gatwick Airport (sitting just outside the town). There are buses and trains to the airport. From the town centre trains run to London Victoria, taking around 41 minutes. The M23 is a stone’s throw away, and meets with the M25 just a few miles north of Crawley before continuing into central London.
