Moving House Statistics – 2022
4,170 people (who had recently moved home) took part in our Moving House Survey which covers all aspects of moving; causes of stress, reasons for moving, leaving loo roll.
Our survey has revealed;
- ‘Husbands’ are the worst house movers.
- 94% of people say they cleaned their house before moving out,
but only 52% said their new home had been cleaned. - Your children are one of the top 5 causes of stress on moving day.
- 41% of people don’t leave a loo roll behind for the new occupants.
- 56% of people still drive past their old home, just to be nosy.

How ‘average’ is your home?
- The average distance of a UK house move is 9 miles.
- The average UK living room measures 17.09m².
- The average kitchen is 13.44m².
- The average UK garden is 15-metres long.
- 45% of UK homeowners consider their home a ‘work in progress’.
- 47% of women have the final say in home décor, compared to 37% of men.
- 28% of homeowners admit to ‘borrowing’ design ideas from a friend’s home.

Either our house movers weren’t totally honest about cleaning their home, or people have different standards of how clean they should leave their old home, and how clean they expect to find the new one.

Most people are keen to recycle at home but when it comes to moving home (when perhaps people use more boxes and packaging materials than usual), people aren’t as focused on staying green.

Moving house is considered one of the most stressful life events, according to those polled, these are the top 5 most stressful aspects of the moving process;
In our survey 21 women stated the most stressful part of their move was “my husband”.
Of the 4,170 people to take part, only one man said the most stressful aspect of the move was “my wife”,
so either women are far more calm while moving house, or their husbands/partners are still too afraid to mention it!
